Comprehensive Environmental Construction of Cryo Electron Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy at Peking University

Project timeline: 2022

Project Content: Engineering+Equipment

Project Address: Beijing

The cryo electron microscopy platform at Peking University is an important research facility dedicated to providing comprehensive cryo electron microscopy technology services for life sciences and related disciplines throughout the university. The platform has been planned and constructed since 2015, with the goal of building an internationally first-class high-end scientific research platform to promote deep interdisciplinary integration and assist the school's "Double First Class" construction.

The construction of the platform has received financial support from institutions such as Peking University's "985" funding, the School of Biological Sciences' discipline construction funding, and the Peking University Tsinghua Joint Life Center. At present, the platform has a series of advanced large-scale scientific research instruments, including the 300 kV field emission cryogenic transmission electron microscope Titan Krios, the 200 kV field emission cryogenic transmission electron microscope Talos Arctica, the cryogenic dual beam scanning electron microscope Aquilos 2, and the cryogenic optoelectronic correlation microscope Leica CLEM. In addition, the platform is equipped with supporting sample preparation equipment such as the Leica ACE600 electron beam and magnetron sputtering coating instrument, and the rapid input cryogenic sample preparation instrument.

Since its launch in 2017, Peking University's cryo electron microscopy platform has established a professional technical support team, including members with doctoral degrees. The platform adheres to the concept of "service first" and provides year-round technical services. The average annual service time of the main equipment exceeds 6000 hours, and has provided scientific research and technical services to more than 50 research groups in more than ten colleges (centers) including the School of Biology, the School of Physics, the School of Future Technology, the School of Chemistry, and the Department of Medicine. The platform has supported the publication of over a hundred high-level scientific research papers, including those published in top international academic journals such as Science, Nature, and Cell.

The construction and development of the cryo electron microscopy platform at Peking University not only provides strong technical support for scientific research on campus, but also makes important contributions to promoting scientific research and technological progress in fields such as life sciences. By providing advanced cryo electron microscopy technology and professional technical services, this platform has become an important partner for domestic and foreign researchers to conduct high-level research.
